http://youtu.be/qXYSb8AYCz8
www.youtube.com
This is a video of what Daniel is doing, (he is not in this video, because it is of last years soldiers) while he is in the army. He was chosen for his height, but all the soldiers had to pass a fitness test. 50 push-ups, 50 sit-ups and 3 kilometers in 12 min as well as handling the gun and some other stuff.

More of my second year portfolio images
Copy write: Fiona Wang Photography
This is my self portrait.
I see myself relaxed on a rock like a seal, but also swinging through life having fun and enjoying life to the full.
This image consists of three images.
The background, is of my faverite rock, which I call the hand, it can be found on the coast of Durban, in the sleepy little area called Umsloti which is about 15 km from Durban.
The second image was taken on a bench, on the jetty, with the elephant tusks in Umshlanga. Another beautiful spot on one of the many beaches of the Durban coast line.
Finally, the last image was taken in the little park at La Lucia Mall parking lot.
Buy cutting and paisting and then tweeking with different photorshop tools this was created.

I then added images that I had taken in Durban at the stadium and those taken while in Shanghai at the World Expo, where South Africa had a building that had many images of South Africa and the Soccer World Cup. There were thousands of people attending the World expo, the Chinese government had given each family in china one complementary ticket, to help families afford to go and enjoy the Expo.
As a result it was packed and every building had a continual queue at the entrance of each building. there were also busses that shuttled one from building to building, as everything is large scale in china.
One hounded and Twenty Five countries had exhibitions at the World Expo. Chine exhibition concentrated on recycling of plastic and there were daily performances from the Sho-Lin monks and a daily per raid with children on roller skates.

Seven Deadly Sins With Mask first shoot
Want to get a back ground that has a hill and may be find a building or monument with steps
(or if the push comes to the push make a module of some steps and paint it and then shoot it and cut past it.)
My model will have a plain mask on because I don't want the face to be important. She will be sitting on a hard flat surface with her hands resting in her lap with a mask held in her open hands. This mask will represent greed.
I will take pictures of her arms in different positions, so that they can be added to her body so that in the end she will have 8 arms and seven masks resting on each hand and one on the two middle hands.
I am not sure if I will put objects in the eyes of the masks or what I will do to the masks. but the first one will represent greed and maybe have money tumbling out of where the eyes should be.
I have done a shoot in the 3 year studio, which did not go well:-
First the equipment gave trouble and I had to get Mark in to try and fix it, eventually he said to improvise with other equipment, because there was something wrong with the studio lighting.
My model was not felling well, because she had just had surgery the week before.
Then the masks had this shinny stuff on the top of them like strait hair sticking up and the lights make shiny spots on the stuff, I will probable photo shop the straight imaginary hair off in the end.
Am seriously thinking of re-shooting everything.

QUESTION 1
What does Photography mean to you?Well there are a number of answers and it complicated, but simply put, it is another way of expressing myself, it is fun, makes me think and be creative.
QUESTION 2
What genre of photography are you passionate about? Why?
People, because they are all different, starting with their looks, attitudes, reactions, personalities, interests, professions and backgrounds. One can only capture a moment in someones life. But sadly, I am not doing this genre for may DUT portfolio, because I felt like I was being put in a box and the lid sealed and the air snuffed out. Being told that I has to narrow it down to child at play, or baby, or portraits etc, made me sick to the cor, they did not understand what I wanted to do, I wanted to make a documentary of different people from birth to death, just like Shakespeare poem The Seven Ages of Man.
Fortunately, I have other passions, Nature and Landscape, here one only has to open you front door and step outside and you are surrounded by beauty, even when it is raining or there is a lightning and thunderstorm. Landscape can be divided in to two urban and rural and Nature encumbrances trees, birds, animals and insects. The possibilities are endless.
Landscape and Nature is my first specialty for portfolio.
My Second specialty for portfolio is Digital Food Photography, I want to try and produce images that can be incorporated in to menu's and cookbooks for healthy living. Simple, but interesting.
QUESTION 3
What aspects of Photography do you love? The fact that you are in charge and that through the lens you can decide what will or will not include in the final image.
The face that you have to go out and find interesting things to shoot.
The fact that every day you could take the same image, and have a different result, because of different times of the day and different settings and different lighting. When shooting out doors, the time of the year also plays a huge part in the end result. All this excites me.
QUESTION 4
What aspects of Photography do you find challenging?
Studio photography, and working with the old fashioned cameras like the Hasselblad and Sinar.
QUESTION 5
If you could share one thing with others who are also interested in Photography what would it be?
Grab a camera and get out there, the world is your oyster and you are it pearl.
Use YOU TUBE, there are many talented people out there dying to shear their knowledge with you.
Find a photographer, that needs help and learn all the tricks of the triad, while you work.

7 DEADLY SINS - update - I have changed my mind, going to do something with masks and get creative
While trying to work out what I was going to draw, I decided to have another look on the internet for ideas, All I could think of was my love for the skul and how since Dena already chose it I could not do someting similar, eventhough we are different, may someone would think I copied the idea. So I started looking again, page after page and then i was the following. The twins and i had made masted before and it is quite easy, so hey presto. I am in business again.
Maybe I will photograph them alone or on a model face with out a smile and emotions, maybe have soe of them with eg fire and salamands coming out of their eyes and mouth, and use the head only, maybe all the heads on separate, black silk pillows, or just the masks on a black silk bacground

7 DEADLY SINS - Generate
Who?
Not sure whether I am going to use people or only parts of people eg a mouth with red lips and a tongue that has had a colour change and feet added to it.
What?
I need to photograph everything separately and then put them together on photoshop.
Some of the images will be of the different animals associated with each sin and then a Chinese lantern rabbit, because it is chinese year of the rabbit and hopefully a tree, either a christmas tree or a tree with many branches like the marula or baobab tree.
How?
All the animals will be photographed in their natural suroundings and I will then cut and crop them out.
The tree needs to be an isolated tree. The body parts will be macro or close-up.
Where?
There is a little farm down the coast, to do the farm animals and the others I am not sure yet, especially the bear. Will have to find somewhere where there is a bear, May be JHB or Pretoria zoo
The body parts can be taken in a studio or on location.
When?
I will take each relevent image as the weeks progress and the assignments are given.

A Little About Me
I was born to Eileen Dorothy and Sidney Alexander on the 06 March, When I was 2 years old my mother got Polio and spent 10 months in hospital, first flat on the back and paralyzed from the wast down and then learning how to sit, take care of her self and how manage life in a wheel chair, only walking 1 hour a week for exercise, with bases and crutches, for the rest of her life.
My Father walked out about the time she came out of hospital, saying he could not live with a wheelchair. It was because my mother could no longer pick up his dirty cloths and mother him, and also because he liked the ladies, always has and always will. He did not choose to be in my life much.
My mother and I lived a poor simple life, in a bachelor flat, until I was in high school, when we moved into a one bedroom, which we shared. Our first TV was given to my mother by her work colleges. I never had my own room until she retired and moved into a two bedroom flat and we only got a car when I turned 18 years, so that I could help with the driving.
My mother was a remarkable woman, and not only worked at the same company for 22 years but was chair lady of Cripple Care Vereeniging for many, many years, and won a award for her service to the community from Round Table. I strive to follow in her footsteps.
I did ballet and horse riding, which I really enjoyed and help mold me, as a child and teenager, all because of kind teachers who sponsored me most of the time. I played hockey and was part of the debating club at high school.
My grand parents on my mother side were the best grandparents ever, they not only visited us, but paid for us to go on holiday with then, until they were to old to make the long trips from Durban to Vereeniging and then to Warm-baths. And then paid for us to come to Durban and visit them.
I left school at the end of grade 11, because my mother could no longer afford the hostel fees of the boarding school in Potchefstroom and did a one year course of Typing, shorthand and office management. Hated working in a office. I signed up with a Correspondence collage and did my matric while working.
When I was 21 years old, I signed up to become a nurse and then after qualifying nursed for nearly 6 years, some of the best years of my life, It was very rewarding and I was able to give back to the community.
By this time I had met and married my husband Joe and we had got married. I stopped work to become a mother and my first son Daniel was born in Taiwan in Dec 1988, motherhood was wonderful and 18 months and 1 day later our Twins Kevin and Roxanne were born in Vereeniging, because Joe was away on army duty for 7 months. I took the twins and Daniel home to Taiwan when they were 3 months old, we had to wait for the weather to even out, Taiwan was to hot 35 Degrees and Vereeninging was to cold - 6 Degrees the day they were born.
My wonderful mother passed away from cancer in July 1998, I miss her so much.
We all lived happily in Taiwan till the twins went to school and then the problems started, Because all the children were diagnosed with ADD and have high IQ's and the schools in Taiwan, can only give children with low IQ's extra classes, and those children are labeled for life even on their ID cards when they are older as having a low IQ, we decided that it would be better for me and the children to return to South Africa and finish schooling.
So we bought a house in Durban and I got on with the job of raising 3 children on my own, and my husband got on with the job of supporting us and having to pay school fees and aeroplane tickets, because that was the only was we could see each other up to 3 times a year. He would come out twice for a week each visit and we would go back every December holiday and stay 6 to 8 weeks
In 2005 I went the F.E.T Collage of Hairdressing and completed a one year course, 6 weeks after completing the exam, which was a 8 hours practical and 3 hour written exam, my right shoulder started to become very painful at night and I was advised to rest it. This meant my dream of opening my own salon was shattered. It took four years and a lot of pain and physiotherapy. I hardly ever have pain now, which is wonderful
We have been sponsoring girls from disadvantaged homes for the part 10 or 11 years. Our first child is graduated from high school and is working doing a Hairdressing apprenticeship. It is wonderful to see how they grow and become young woman. I believe if you educate a girl you are educating a nation. unfortunately many families will only educate the boys, because they believe that girls will get married and have children, they forget that the mother is the babies first teacher, she has to teach her children their first language. Three of the 5 children (one pic missing) we have sponsored have only a mother, the fathers have either died or deserted the family.
Joined the Department of photography in January 2009, I started with a Canon D 450 EOS and two lenses EFS 18 to 55 mm and a long lens EF-S 55 to 250 mm. It was daunting, as I had always used a point and shoot. Used to sit with the second and third years and ask them questions about the camera, because had not learned all the jargon and did not understand what the little camera book meant sometimes. Times have changed, now I can tell other about how a Canon D 450 EOS works and how to get a good picture.
Last year I did second year and passed with one distinction out of the four subjects.
Here are some of the images that I shot during 2010. My favorite subject was Theory of photography, I found both the Digital and theory classes very interesting and informative.
